I am also funded by the Citadel GQS PhD Fellowship , being the only recipient among all physics PhD in the US.
I enjoy science fiction and fantasy, which is part of the reason I chose to pursue a career in Astrophysics in the first place. As a hardcore Whovian, I translated Feast of the Drowned, an official Doctor Who spin-off novel into Chinese on an online forum when I was 12. A Wicked Letter Through Time (邪恶的时光信笺) is a short sci-fi film I written, produced and co-directed for THU Physics Student Gala 2019. It was well-received by audiences in department.
I am an enthusiast of applying modern phonetics (e.g. the IPA framework) to study how ancient Chinese pronunciation has evolved over the years. This helped me systematically understand many basic logics behind pronunciations of Chinese dialects such as Cantonese, and also the onyomi components of Japanese. Happy to talk about East Asian Languages!
I used to sing in a rock 'n' roll band back in High School (those were the crazy days...), then I was trained to sing in a more classical manner in Tsinghua chorus and Berkeley Chinese Acappella.
I am excited about giving Live vocal performances: My Way, Wandering Earth Theme (流浪地球), When We Were Young , This is the Moment, 任我行, 昴 (Subaru)
Christmas 2023, to celebrate return of David Tennant in Doctor Who, I recorded Song For Ten
Fall 2024, I won Championship of The Voice of Princeton with my Live performance of When We Were Young
I am also an oral speaker, representing China in international speech contests.
Speech competitions: 21st century English Speaking competition (2019) in which I won National Championship.
prepared speech and improvised speech International Public Speaking Competition (2019) in which I qualified as Top 6 among competitors from ~50 countries.
I was invited to star in and dub an official English Promotion Video for Tsinghua University: Beyond the Pages .
